Premium Camellia Oil – A Natural Treasure from Vietnam
Plant Description
Camellia oil, also known as tea seed oil, is a versatile botanical product derived from the seeds of the Camellia oleifera tree. With a long history of use in culinary, cosmetic, and therapeutic applications, this oil is highly regarded for its purity, nutritional value, and skin-enhancing properties.
What Is Camellia Oil?
Extracted from the seeds of Camellia oleifera, a member of the Theaceae (tea) family, Camellia oil is a light, non-greasy oil prized for its exceptional versatility. While sometimes confused with Tsubaki oil from Camellia japonica, Camellia oleifera oil stands out due to its higher content of oleic acid and wider application range.
Known by several names—including Sasanqua oil—this product plays a vital role in health, nutrition, and cosmetics. It’s a staple in many traditional practices and a rising star in global markets for its natural benefits.

Botanical Origin and Plant Description
The Camellia oleifera tree is a medium-sized, evergreen shrub typically growing between 5 to 7 meters in height. It features a round, symmetrical crown with evenly spaced branches. Its glossy green leaves are oblong or oval with serrated edges, measuring about 3–6 cm in length and 2–3 cm in width.
In bloom, the plant displays delicate white flowers, 3–5 cm in diameter, often clustered in groups of one to four. These flowers boast vibrant yellow stamens. The fruit, a slightly hairy capsule, is round or slightly pointed and splits open upon ripening, revealing oil-rich seeds enclosed in a hard shell.

Growing Regions and Harvesting
Camellia trees are primarily cultivated in the highland areas of northern and central Vietnam. Key growing provinces include Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Lai Chau, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, and Cao Bang. Former Zone 4 provinces like Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Quang Binh also produce significant yields.

Flowering occurs in spring, while harvesting takes place in October. After collection, fruits are sun-dried, and seeds are extracted for cold pressing. This gentle method ensures the oil retains its nutritional and cosmetic properties.

Harvesting and Oil Extraction
Camellia trees flower in spring. Fruits are harvested in October. The collected fruits are then dried. After drying, seeds are carefully separated. These seeds are then pressed. This process extracts the precious oil.
